The Best of the Festival Award, initiated in 2005, is given to the short comedy film judged highest by a jury of Chicagoans prominent in the comedy and filmmaking communities and the media (see below). The jury members are present during the two shows of the event, scoring the films that are screened – for 2009, the total was 38.

The winning film received a copy of Avid Media Composer 3.5 Software, worth $2,500, from Partnering Sponsor Avid Technology, Inc.
